RTPA2A TekConnect Probe Adapter for Tektronix Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers

The RTPA2A Real-Time Probe Adapter is new interface hardware module that allows Tektronix active probes to be used with Tektronix Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers (RTSA). The interface allows connection of high frequency in-circuit probes for RF signals up to 8 GHz and enables base band analysis of IQ signals. The RTPA2A is designed for the RSA3408A, RSA3300A series, RSA2200A series, and WCA200A Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers.

In many stages of RF design, it is necessary to probe certain points within a circuit to isolate a problem. When combined with Real-time Spectrum Analysis, circuit problems can be captured and analyzed in multiple domains. With the RTPA2A, customers will be able to take advantage of world class Tektronix probes paired with world class Tektronix Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers to troubleshoot at different and specific points on their device under test (DUT). Using the RTPA2A with Tektronix RTSA, design engineers can measure signals on SMD pins or other challenging circuit features.

The RTSA provides seamless integration through the TekConnect interface by automatically detecting and applying correction factors with all supported probes. This simplifies the setup for troubleshooting and requires no user adjustment. Customer performing RF or high frequency digital design would value these capabilities. The combination of RTSA and TekConnect probes are particularly suited for customers conducting general RF troubleshooting, high speed digital design with high dynamic range phase noise measurements, EMI troubleshooting, and high impedance IQ base band input for low power RF devices.

The RTPA2A Real-Time Probe Adapter supports the following TekConnect probes:

P7313 >12.5 GHz Z-Active Differential Probe
P7380 8 GHz Z-Active Differential Probe
P7380SMA 8 GHz Differential Signal Acquisition System
P7350 5 GHz Differential Probe
P7260 6 GHz Active Probe
P7240 4 GHz Active Probe
P7330 3.5 GHz Differential Probe
P7225 2.5 GHz Active Probe

The adapter provides probe power for up to two Tektronix P7000 Series probes through an external power supply. Probe control signals are handled through a USB cable that connects the RTPA2A to the RTSA. This allows the RTSA to automatically adjust level offset to account for attenuation factors of the different probes.

The RTPA2A Real-Time Probe Adapter is available now for use with new Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers. Existing RTSA units require Windows XP and a firmware upgrade to version 3.10. The firmware will be available for download free of charge from www.tektronix.com when released this fall.
