Module Description

Introduction of some specific GSM functional network elements. These functional entities can be implemented in different equipment or integrated. It is necessary to transfer information between these entities in the PLMN in order to deal with the specific procedure e.g. roaming of Mobile Stations. The Signaling System No. 7 specified by ITU-T is used to transfer this information.

Target Audience

Operational and planning staff in the switching and radio domain.

Objectives

After successfully completing the course the student will:

  • Understand the Inter-working Function (IWF) as a functional entity associated with the various network elements.

  • Understand the functionality necessary to allow inter-working between a PLMN and the PSTN (ISDN, PSTN, NGN and PDNs) network elements.
